Sustainable Fashion 2019

Happy New Year Everyone,

Last weekend I was at London Fashion Week Men's and I came to understand much more about the implications of throw-away fashion...

Simplicity is key. A concept explored by a multitude of designers in a time where texturisation is vital. The ability to convey a message through a specific garment, colour or fit. How can a boned corset suggest societal demands? How can use of colour transform a classic piece?

AW19 Menswear season was a game changer in the world of fashion, expanding its market share by an outstanding 75%. Over the weekend London was filled with some of the industries most stylish men, showcasing global individuality, uniqueness and personality. "

Although it may be tempting to rush into town to satisfy latest 'fad-trend' the excess of people doing this (I for one am most certainly guilty) has some serious long term impacts on the sustainability and ethics of the fashion industry. After a conversation with Alistair Guy at LFW, it seems far more beneficial to purchase an item of clothing as an investment in yourself.

Justifying a splurge on some more expensive items may seem scary at first, however, I have collated some ideas on how to combat this...

1) Ask yourself are you going to wear this item of clothing more than 30 times?
2) How has this item been produced? Is it ethical?
3) Could you purchase this item from another retailer for better quality?

Quality of items has become a huge factor for me when buying clothes, I am able to appreciate gorgeous textures and specific detailing, more often than not the better quality the longer the product will last. therefore; supporting reasons to make a larger one-off purchase than lots of repurchasing the same item.

I fully understand the issues of a shopaholic, I am the self-proclaimed Queen of shopping (especially for jackets) so if you frequently change up your style or are an avid trend follower then have you considered transforming some of your old clothes into a newer style, not only is this saving you money by not making a new purchase but it also means that a once unused item can be recycled into something new - aiding the chain of sustainability.
