London Fashion Week 2018 - DAY 1:

Hello Everyone,

London Fashion Week is underway running until the 20th February, along with an amazing schedule of catwalks from designers such as Ryan LoMolly Goddard, and Burberry. In terms of the show for Burberry, there is a distinct buzz within the media because this is Christopher Bailey's last show as the companies chief creative director. He joined in 2001 with the hopes of trying to turn the companies brand image around. Header images show the Ryan Lo designs with a key focus on pastel colours in eveningwear items.

DAY 1: 16/02/18
- Bora Aksu: The London based Turkish award-winning designer did not fail to disappoint with his autumn-winter collection.

This colour contrast between the black and white is a popular trend for AW18, the black embellishment around each of the ruffles recreates a vintage look. Likewise to trends in 2017 ruffle detailing is forecasted again to this year.

Millenial pink - a huge phenomenon in 2017, making a comeback this year along with the contrast with the white. Combined with the variation of textures in the dress, suggesting a strong correlation between the ruffle details and the rest of Aksu's collection. I LOVE THIS PIECE! Also keeping in mind that this is a wearable style for everyday life, perhaps high street brands will recreate this look?

-Toogood: A brand created by sisters Faye and Erica who gained inspiration from their Grandmother a tailor, who during the war made underwear garments from parachutes. Their countryside lifestyle is represented in their designs with the emphasis on outerwear perfect for the AW18 season.

This mustard chunky knit cardigan yet again is a highly wearable style and can be used for both genders. The knitted detailing at the bottom of the sleeves and near the base hem.

Finally, the work of fashion design undergraduate students from the University of Westminster was showcased on the runway. this was the first time that undergraduate work has been included in the official fashion week schedule.
The mustard and burgundy co-ord set caught my eye with the particular focus on the textures the velvet jacket combined with the fur trim on sleeves and collar paired with the metallic skirt. By showcasing the work of students it enables them t get contacts in the industry as they are the future of fashion - plus are a force to be reckoned with

Moving on from the runway itself, LFW began with a protest led by activist and plus size model Hayley Hasselhoff joined by CoCo Brown and Megan Crabbe. This was in favour of getting more plus-size models on the runway during events such as fashion week, you can support this by using  #RulesRewritten on social media platforms.

I hope you enjoyed this quick review of Day 1 from LFW, tomorrow I will be uploading a review from Day 2, if you're interested in fashion but are unable to get to fashion week itself then many of the shows are live-streamed on the brand's website. If you're reading this on the day it's uploaded then you can watch the Burberry show at 5PM UK time on their website. I would love to know your opinion on #RulesRewritten and any of the clothing items featured.
